Preachers Kids International is a nonprofit ministry group dedicated to both celebration and recovery for those who grew up in the parsonage. PKI is focused on providing avenues for healing, support and acceptance for the families of pastors, missionaries, and other full-time Christian professional ministers.
PKI was founded in 1993 by Chonda Pierce and Second Row, Inc. and was born out of Chonda's recognition of the humor and the pain that is common in the lives of many grown children of ministers. As her international career as a comedian, recording artist, speaker, and author exploded, so too did the notes, phone calls, and prayer requests from one particular segment of people: preacher's kids.
Chonda states, "The stress and strain of ministry is undoubtedly felt by those closest to the minister -- his family. It is my goal to provide a source of encouragement for those families who share this unique bond."
"Each one should use whatever gift he or she has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. "
I Peter 4:10 NIV

The purpose of PKI is to provide ministry and support to the families of preachers, missionaries, evangelists and other Christian professional ministers. Our immediate focus is the adult children of those families -- offering celebrations and recovery through counseling, group interaction, retreats, and seminars.

PKI reaches out to preacher's kids in several ways:
Conferences
As often as feasible, PKI hosts weekend conferences in different locations within the United States. These conferences feature top Christian entertainers (all preacher's kids), outstanding speakers and seminar leaders, and the opportunity for individual and group involvement. Every effort is made to have certified counselors and therapists for formal or informal counseling.
Communications
Our web site is designed to be a communications and support tool for PK's of every age. Through our message boards, chats, and email newsletters, our PKI Community participants have the opportunity to access the latest news and events, as well as experience the sense of community our organization seeks to foster among PK's.
PK Retreats
PKI occasionally hosts PK/MK retreats for the purpose of providing a time of fun and fellowship among attendees. PKI Founder Chonda Pierce and her husband David purchased over 70 acres of beautiful rolling, wooded hills in Dickson County, Tennessee, located on the Harpeth River and teeming with wildlife. Their express purpose for The Funny Farm is to personally provide a place of retreat where parsonage families can refresh and rejoice, and where ministers in crisis can find rest. As a preacher's kid I had many great experiences and many not so great. But, overall I am very glad that I was born a son of a preacher man. I had a wonderful father who was totally dedicated to God.
Many times I was jealous of the time the church required of him and my mom. I wanted them for myself. We had some very difficult times in the early days of my dad's ministry -- but I never went hungry.
We were cared for by loving Christian people. My parents never owned their own home until they retired. They always lived in a parsonage. (For you that don't know it is a house furnished by the church) Now living in a parsonage has some real experiences of it's own. Some of them are just down right funny!
I really enjoy sharing experiences with other preacher's kids who understand where I am coming from and do not condemn me for some of the feelings I have dealt with over the years. It is just neat being understood. That is what I have found in PKI, understanding love. A family of preacher's kids.
