Condolezza Rice

Currently serving as National Security Advisor to the Bush Administration, she has been called "the most powerful woman in the world" and "Bush's secret weapon."

Her devoted parents—Angelena, who taught music and science at an all-black high school, and John, who pastored Birmingham's Westminster Presbyterian Church, was dean of the historically black Stillman College, and later the vice chancellor of the University of Denver—saw to it that their daughter had the best things in life. Though not without struggle, they gave her a rare family pedigree, a devout faith, and a strong sense of self-worth.

John Ashcroft
http://www.whitehouse.gov/government/ashcroft-bio.html
On the eve of his induction into the U.S. Senate, John Ashcroft asked a small group of family and friends to pray for him. As they circled around him, Ashcroft noticed his father beginning to rise from the couch. "That's Ok, Dad", Ashcroft said. "You don't have to stand up to pray for me". "I'm not struggling to stand up", his father replied. "I'm struggling to kneel".

Such were the lessons that U.S. Attorney General Ashcroft learned from his dad, who went home to heaven the day after his son took office in the Senate. From this man John Ashcroft drew his strength. Ashcroft didn't come from a politician's family. No silver spoons, no hobnobbing with the movers and shakers ... unless they were moving and shaking in the pews of his father's country church in Missouri.
